How to get your moles checked

There are two levels of mole screening to choose from.

Single mole spot check

If you just want us to look at or provide a second opinion on a single mole that worries you, you can have a single mole check for £75. We will analyse that mole with our computer-enhanced dermoscope, provide you with a risk score and invite you back for a second photograph of the mole within six months.

Screening and dermoscopy

The first stage is a thorough visual inspection where we look for unusual moles, often in places you cannot see yourself. Full screening and dermoscopy costs £150.

Mole screening then involves extensive use of our dermoscope, a clever digital camera linked to a computer with a database of 40,000 reference moles, which can photograph, analyse, score and save images of your moles. We recommend that any borderline cases should be re-examined in the next three to six months. By comparing two images taken at different times, our dermoscope can check for small changes that would not be apparent without our technology.

From a medical point of view, mole screening is about the early detection of malignant melanoma. At The Skin Clinic, most people want reassurance that they have not got this most dangerous form of skin cancer, but they also want to learn about other more common conditions. The Skin Clinic often identifies other forms of sun damage for which it offers non-invasive treatments.

When necessary, The Skin Clinic can refer you to leading dermatologists, consultant surgeons and specialist physicians for private treatment, especially when clients want their own specialist to carry out delicate surgery. Medical partners include Skin Check in Farnham, Surrey and the Odiham Health Centre.
